I've been a fan of Avril Lavigne since I was 9 years old. I used to sing her songs at the top of my lungs (Literally. 'Cause her songs are very high LOL). There's just something about her and her songs that just hits me with nostalgia and feels that I can't explain. Also because I feel like all of her songs are very relatable.

Back in the days, I felt like some of her songs were written for the teenagers who were afraid to speak up or to be themselves. So for anybody who still does not know Avril or for those who still haven't listened to her songs, here is my list of top 10 Avril songs you can relate to.

10. Anything But Ordinary

This song made my list because I know a lot of people can really relate with the lyrics; a lot of us know what it's like to live in black and white and some of us just want more. Speaking for myself, living a boring monotonous life makes me want to scream at the top of my lungs and go crazy. Also, the line ‘anything to make me feel alive’ resonates with me

Favorite lines in the song: "Somebody save my life, I'd rather be anything but ordinary please."

9. Bitchin' Summer

Obviously, the title tells it all. This song is perfect for the summer and I just know that you guys feel this way every summer vacation when we were young. Whenever this song comes on, I always imagine listening to it in a convertible car with my best friends as we drive off to the sunset along a beautiful scenic beach.

Favorite lines in the song: "It's gonna be a bitchin' summer, we'll be livin' fast, kickin' ass together."

8. Hello Heartache

Okay, so I’ll admit that not all relationships have an amicable split but for those people who do, this song is very relatable. This song became one of my ‘sort-of-break-up’ anthems at some point. It was a friendly farewell and this song was perfect for what I felt then.

Favorite lines in the song: "Goodbye my friend, hello heartache."

7. Things I'll Never Say

Okay guys, flashback to when you were in High School or College when you see your crush and you just want to pour your heart out to him but can’t? THIS. THIS is the song. I think this is a very cute song that shows how a woman can also be nervous talking to the guy she likes. 💕

P.S. When I was young I never noticed the sly innuendos Avril put in this song. I didn't know if she meant to do that or that she didn't notice it too 😂.

Favorite lines in the song: "If I could say what I want to see, I want to see you go down on one knee -- 'marry me today.'"

6. Contagious

Come on girls! Admit it, we all feel giddy when we’re with the guy we like — or even just thinking about him. Remember that butterfly feeling we got when that cute boy talked to us? Well, that feeling just took it’s form into a song — THIS song. Overall, it’s just a cute song about a girl who is high on love. ❤

Favorite lines in the song: "Damn, this guy can make me smile, it's so contagious!"

5. I'm With You

We all have those times when we just feel so down, gloomy and overall just feeling lonely. We also have that time in our life that nothing seems to be going right and we just want to escape from the things that we can’t control. Something about this song makes me want to drown my sorrows and just lose myself in it. Listen to this while you're underneath the pouring rain and I promise you, you'll feel like you're in a music video.

Favorite lines in the song: "Isn't anyone tryin' to find me? Won't somebody come take me home?"

4. Don't Tell Me

Growing up, this song imprinted on my mind. It gave me the courage to stand up for myself and not let anyone pressure me into doing anything when I wasn't ready for it. This song is just a great way to empower young women to be strong and not give in to anything that you're not ready for.

Favorite lines in the song: "Did you think that I was gonna give it up to you this time? Did you think that it was somethin' I was gonna do and cry?"

3. Runaway

As you might notice, this list has a couple of songs about running from problems (LOL). Well, sometimes that’s not a bad idea. Sometimes you just have to runaway from problems for a little bit while you sort your sh** out. What’s important is, you come back and you deal with it LIKE A BOSS. This song is my third because I have its lyrics perfectly memorized in my head. This song inspires me not to lose my sh** in every bad situation because nobody can knock you down anymore since you're already flat face on the ground. (It makes sense though; come on admit it. 🤣)

Favorite lines in the song: "I just wanna scream and lose control; throw my hands up and let it go; forget about everything and run away."

2. Nobody's Home

This song has a big sentimental value for me because this song is the song that I would always play when my depression or anxiety would hit me. I relate to this one SO much because I feel like this song is a story of what I felt during my dark times and I think a lot of people struggling with anxiety or depression would relate to it too. I actually like ALL the lyrics in this song but the ones down below resonated with me the most.

Favorite lines in the song: "She wants to go home, but nobody's home; that's where she lies, broken inside."

1. Innocence

This song always, ALWAYS reminds me of Nina, one of my two bffs, because she is the purest hearted person that I know and she’s one of the three people that keeps me grounded to the feeling of innocent bliss. Also, this song was probably the second or the third song of Avril that I listened to when I was a kid. And I guess the reason why this song is first on my list is because of how truthful the lyrics are. Maybe it's because no matter how much we grow up or how old we get, we still want to retain the feeling or the memory of innocence we once felt or once knew before; because during that innocent moment that we remember, everything was perfect.

Favorite lines in the song: "This innocence is brilliant, I hope that it will stay; this moment is perfect."

Choosing only 10 songs was VERY VERY VERY hard for me since I LOVE every Avril song there is and ALL her songs are awesome. I know every person has their own music taste and if Avril's music really isn't your thing, I respect that. But please just try listening to some of her songs. Who knows, you might even be a Black Star? 😉

Sending much love,

- Anne 💋
